The Power of the Pause
In fitness, as in life, there’s a subtle yet profound power in the in-between moments. Between pulling and releasing, between inhaling and exhaling, lies the tipping point. It’s in this delicate balance that transformation happens.
In training, every movement has phases-concentric, isometric, and eccentric. In the concentric phase, muscles contract, overcoming a load; in the eccentric, muscles lengthen, releasing the load. But right in between, we find the isometric phase, the tipping point. This can be more than a transition; when we choose to pause, holding steady under tension, this can be a destination in itself. The strength and endurance gained from holding a position, from dwelling in time under tension, is unique-it’s a reminder that not all progress comes from movement alone.
We find a similar tipping point in breathing. Between each inhale and exhale, there’s a natural pause when the lungs are full. Pausing here, even for a moment, is a form of self-reliance and clarity. It reminds us that stillness can be just as vital as action. These moments of balance ground us, build resilience, and empower us to move forward with purpose and focus.
This weekend, as you pause between last week and next, what are you empowered to undertake?
