Ichor Fitness – Summary of Weight Management Program
Program Role and Approach
Ichor Fitness served as one of the two behavioral strategy providers in the six-month Weight Management Program (15 February – 15 August 2025).
Their method emphasizes structured, performance-driven health improvement, centered around:
Key Elements of Ichor’s Methodology
- Personalized fitness programs delivered via their app
- Weekly training plans with demonstrations, coach notes, and progress tracking
- Certified nutrition coaching (calorie and macronutrient tracking)
- Weekly educational themes (Fitness Monday, Nutrition Tuesday, Mindset Thursday)
- Community engagement through social tools and support groups
- Focus on accountability, integrity, and sustainable habit formation
The program is built to support large groups while maintaining a high degree of individualized follow-up—an important factor given the pilot’s scale.
Engagement and Participation
Ichor demonstrated very strong engagement metrics:
- 87% of participants were actively engaged throughout the pilot
- Their digital platform enabled detailed monitoring of each participant’s activity
- Clear visibility into exercise habits, nutritional adherence, and behavioral change allowed for more precise evaluation than a survey-only model
This high interaction level indicates that Ichor’s structured, coach-guided approach resonates well with seafarers who value clarity, accountability, and routine.
Weight Loss and BMI Improvements
Ichor achieved measurable and clinically meaningful results:
- 32 participants improved their BMI category
- 4 participants improved by two BMI categories
- 22 participants reached a BMI below 30 (transitioning out of obesity)
- Average BMI decreased from 33.35 → 31.58
These outcomes demonstrate clear progress toward reducing weight-related health risks and improving physical wellbeing.
Behavioral and Lifestyle Changes Physical Activity
Participants increased:
- Training frequency
- Training intensity
- Training duration
Exercise sessions more often moved into moderate-to-vigorous intensity levels, paired with increased consistency across the cohort.
Sleep
Ichor participants reported:
- Reduced difficulty falling asleep
- A shift toward more positive sleep-quality categories over time
Dietary Behavior
Despite the onboard limitations, Ichor participants showed:
- Significant reduction in sweetened beverage consumption
- More individuals adopting moderate or high-quality eating patterns
- Elimination of very low-frequency fruit/vegetable and fish intake for some categories
These changes indicate participants made purposeful choices where they had personal control.
Wellbeing
Psychological wellbeing improved across all measured dimensions:
- Increased scores in “most of the time” felt cheerful/in good spirits
- WHO-5 wellbeing metric improved from 84% → 94% “All Well”
- Mild depressive symptoms dropped from 14% → 4%
Motivation and Long-Term Continuation
Ichor participants showed:
- Increased motivation over the six months
- Strong confidence in continuing their health journey independently
- High appreciation of goal-setting, training structure, and nutrition guidance
- Strong connection to group support and coaching components
This indicates that the program not only generated short-term progress but also strengthened internal motivation and long-term readiness for sustained lifestyle change.
Summary Conclusion
The Weight Management Program (WMP) report is based on our own participant survey, combining self-reported data, structured check-ins, and program-driven assessments to ensure a consistent evaluation of outcomes.
Ichor Fitness delivered a highly structured, scalable, and data-driven weight management solution that generated strong engagement, clear physical improvements, and sustainable behavioral change among participating seafarers.
The program’s strengths included:
- High engagement rate (87%)
- Strong measurable health outcomes (BMI, weight loss, WHO-5)
- Improved exercise habits and sleep quality
