It can be tempting to dive headfirst with too much volume and intensity for quick results. This commonly happens around New Year Resolution time! But this can be counterproductive and can lead to micro-injuries, reduced self-confidence, and a higher chance of giving up.
It is important to build up progressively giving our bodies and minds the chance to adapt, leveling up aerobic and muscular endurance and strength, joint mobility and stability, and core strength. If an exercise program is progressive and systematic, known as a progressive overload approach, the body sufficiently adapts to the new demands placed on it and we are more likely to succeed in the long run.
